#ELMSSportsFoundation interacts with PE teachers to share significance and benefits of sports
ELMS Sports Foundation in association with the Tribal Development Department, Maharashtra made a one-day intervention in the tribal belt of Gadchiroli. From ELMS Sports Foundation Dr Amit Malik and Sindhu Sree interacted with local tribal people from in and around the area.
The primary focus of the intervention was to understand how the tribals indulged in sports and physical activities, what were the few significant bottlenecks in their journey to being Physically Literate, and how ELMS could help the community overcome such barriers. The team observed athletes’ participation in various sports and local cultural activities as part of the Rajyastareeya Kreeda Spardha. It provided team ELMS with the unique opportunity to identify the popular sports and local cultural elements by interacting with coaches and athletes. Dr. Amit Malik spoke at length with coaches, physical education teachers, wardens, and other officials to understand their training/learning needs and ground realities. Sindhu Sree met with the health in-charge to gain insights into the health background of athletes in the region to identify the key areas of improvement. The team even briefly interacted with the Principal Secretary, Ms. Manisha Verma, along with Project Officers Ms. Indurani Jakhar and Mr. Sachin Ombase.
Though we were warmly received and everyone in spite of the language barrier were eager to understand Physical Literacy philosophy, however, we at ELMS realised that one style fits all approach may not work for the development of all across the country - given the diversity of culture, language, and region in India.
